ADLs_QNW

Measure absorbance as a function of ramped or stepped temperature with many of Agilent’s Cary Spectrophotometers

It has recently been reported that the ADL Shell application from WinUV versions 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4 will not work with ADLs_QNW.  That from WinUV 6.0 did work.  At QNW we have only ADL Shell version 5.0.0.1008 which works.  We do not know if there might be problems with other versions.  Agilent has been notified but as of January 2023 we have not heard from Agilent about any effort to correct this problem.

ADLs_QNW is a set of ADL files (text files containing computer code) that can be run in Agilent’s ADL Shell application. They enable acquisition of single wavelength absorbance or absorbance scans as a function of temperature for the Agilent Cary 60, 100, 300, 4000, 5000, 6000i, and 7000 spectrophotometers.

The software represented by the ADLs_QNW obtains temperature from the controller and absorbance from the Cary in order to collect absorbance as a function of sample holder temperature, time or wavelength and graph it. The software can be run using three “Methods”:

  1. The “Ramp T” Method obtains temperature/absorbance data during linear ramps of the sample temperature.
  2. The “Step T” Method obtains temperature/absorbance data as the temperature is stepped through a series of temperature settings.
  3. The “Hold T” Method holds the temperature at a specified value and obtains absorbance as a function of time.

If you have a compatible Cary temperature probe (types 1 and 2 only) the program may detect them and, if it does, you can specify that the probe temperature be reported instead of the of the sample holder temperature.  Alternatively, if a Series 400 or 500 thermistor probe connected to the probe input on the back panel of the Temperature Controller, you can specify that that probe temperature be reported instead of the of the sample holder temperature.

ADLs_QNW/Version_050 (for single wavelength absorbance) as a function of temperature is provided on request, free of charge, to purchasers of Quantum Northwest cuvette holders to be used in Cary 60, 100, 300, 4000, 5000, 6000i, and 7000 spectrophotometers.

ADLs_QNW/Version_201 (for wavelength scans) beta version is available on request.
