The Luma 40 is a versatile, temperature-controlled cuvette holder with four optical ports, each positioned at a 90° beam path from the others, making it ideal for a wide range of spectroscopy applications. Its broad temperature range and adaptability have made it the most widely compatible holder Quantum Northwest offers, with more models designed for different instruments than any other in our lineup. Primarily intended for absorbance and fluorescence measurements, the additional optical ports provide greater flexibility—enhancing fluorescence readings or accommodating specialized sensors for unique experimental needs. The Luma 40 supports standard 10 mm square cuvettes, with options for slimmer cuvettes using Quantum Northwest’s thermal conductive adapters.

The Luma 40 operates between -25 °C and 110 °C, achieving precise thermal stability through a Peltier-based heat exchanger with circulating coolant. It supports sample stirring at a steady, reproducible rate and allows for controlled gas purging done at lower temperatures to maintain optical clarity and help with insulating. Whether for stable-temperature spectroscopy or temperature ramping experiments, the Luma 40 delivers reliable performance.

For extended temperature capabilities, users can add a Windowed Jacket—available at purchase or as a later upgrade—to extend cooling down to approximately -35 °C. For high-temperature applications, a high-temperature option allows operation up to 150 °C but must be selected at the time of purchase due to key internal modifications. Choosing both options provides an impressive 185 °C range, making the Luma 40 adaptable to even the most demanding experiments. Like all Quantum Northwest sample holders, the Luma 40 provides unsurpassed temperature control, ensuring stable hold temperatures within a fraction of a degree.

Control is straightforward using the TC-1 Temperature Controller, included with purchase. Users can set temperatures, stirring speeds, and ramp rates via the TC-1’s front panel or through T-App, Quantum Northwest’s optional control software, which provides features like real-time plotting, scripting, and direct sample temperature measurement when paired with the optional Probe/10K sensor. Even without T-App, the TC-1 display provides a direct readout of the sample temperature when using the Probe/10K.

The Luma 40 integrates with a wide range of spectrophotometers. The standard model mounts easily to both imperial and metric optical breadboards, with additional models available for specific instruments.
