The qX2x2 is an air-cooled, dual cuvette holder designed for independent temperature control of both the sample and reference cuvettes in UV/Vis spectroscopy. Mounted on a base plate that precisely positions each cuvette in the correct beam path, it requires no alignment. With optical ports on each side of both cuvette holders, it supports absorbance measurements using a 180° beam path for each holder. It accommodates standard 10 mm square cuvettes, with options for slimmer cuvettes using Quantum Northwest’s thermal conductive adapters.

While both cuvette holders are air-cooled, the qX2x2 delivers performance comparable to water-cooled models, maintaining temperatures from 0 °C to 110 °C. It uses thermoelectric (Peltier) temperature control, with forced air efficiently dissipating heat, eliminating the need for a water bath.

The qX2x2 is designed with interchangeable cooling methods. While it ships as an air-cooled unit, it includes built-in water-cooling capabilities. By adding an insulated vest, attaching water inlet and outlet barbs, and connecting a water circulator—available at purchase or as a later upgrade—users can extend the cooling range down to approximately -35 °C. For applications requiring higher temperatures, a high-temperature option enables operation up to 150 °C, incorporating key internal modifications. This option must be selected at the time of purchase. Like all Quantum Northwest sample holders, the qX2x2 provides unsurpassed temperature control, ensuring stable hold temperatures within a fraction of a degree.

Control is straightforward using the TC-1 Temperature Controller, included with purchase. Users can set sample and reference temperatures, stirring speeds, and ramp rates via the TC-1’s front panel or through T-App, Quantum Northwest’s optional control software, which provides features like real-time plotting, scripting, and direct sample temperature measurement when paired with the optional Probe/10K sensor. Even without T-App, the TC-1 display provides a direct readout of the sample temperature when using the Probe/10K.
